Well the jester / harlequin / olicana golden ale I made a few months ago was so good I’m brewing it again this weekend.
First recipe I’ve brewed again completely unchanged.
Can’t say what the hops bring individually but the combination has worked great.
Great summer thirst quencher. Hoping the batch i brew this weekend will be in good shape for the last weekend in august when we have friends over for young ones birthday..

Slightly off topic.
I've got some Olicana in the freezer.
When I opened them they had a sort of 'oniony' smell.
Never used Olicana before, so I don't know if that's normal (but I doubt it).
Got in touch with the malt miller who said it's not normal and kindly sent another bag.
Got the same oniony smell.
Anyone else have the same problem?
I thought it might have been the nitro flush but none of the other hops I bought at the same time have the off-smell.

I have read onion/garlic can be a result of late crop/harvest also it does say if you use them on the hot side it usually does not carry through but can do if you dry hop with them.

I have used one of the worst offenders Summit but I have never had the onion described by some brewers

Do You know DD2 I have used it many times usually on its own in summer beer even in large quantities and never had anything but tropical taste, maybe I have been lucky

Sorry for going off track to the OP but this may be useful info
Hops that may give onion taste are
Simcoe
Summit
Columbus

I've had a few beers that give that oniony taste (not my own) and with the odd bit of umami from some dead yeast remind me of steak and onions. The beerriff brewer did mention a certain hop was more prone to that but I forgot what it was because I thought , well I'm not going to use that.

To me Harlequin was like a tasty blend of us hops. Have Godiva in the fermenter now. There may be more year to year variations in young products?
Hi @Caramel Ox,

I bought 100g of Godiva from CML on a whim and have searched the forum for recipes, aiming to brew with them at the weekend.

What beer did you make with them please?
Did it turn out well?

Cheers
