Getting a bit long in the tooth to be lugging around 23l FVs, so thought I'd start playing about with smaller batches. Being a tight wad it seems a shame to pitch a whole sachet of dried yeast into 11-12l. I was thinking of starting the yeast in water and pouring just half into the wort, keeping the other half refrigerated. Does anyone else do this, and how long might the stored liquid yeast be good for? Thanks.

Do you mean keep the unused half as dried yeast or as hydrated yeast?

just be as sterile as possible when using part of a packet and store correctly

Thanks. I was only thinking of hydrating it as it seems safer and easier to estimate half a volume of liquid rather than trying to guess when I'd used half a sachet of dry, but thanks for the point about dry lasting much longer than hydrated.
