I've always respected Kane as a player, but has the diving and playacting always been a big part of his game? I've not really watched enough of him to comment on it, but I was shocked by the frequency of his attempts to con the referee. It wasn't that long ago that our pundits would scream bloody murder when a foreign player behaved like that, and decried that it had been brought into our game. How times have changed.

Kane has made a living out of it. Mo Salah got slaughtered for it. England captain is untouchable

Absolutely - in the previous Euros England lost in the final to a bang average Italian side that were the king sh**housers of the tournament.
 
I thought Kane was decent, but he was basically playing as a no.8. England have been so poor this tournament, but were better against the best team they've faced which bodes well (for Spain). Southgate sets up like he's managing Fulham or Burnley... to play for a point and maybe steal the game. This is a good side being under utilised.

I still don't understand Bellingham as a no.10. Lad's a driving no.8 especially when England have one of the world's best no.10's shifted to the left wing. Surely you play Rice at 6, Bellingham at 8 and Foden at 10!? It's not fair on Mainoo who has been excellent but that central 3 absolutely the way to go in my eyes with two defined wingers putting crosses into Kane.

It's tournament football. Even the best teams need some luck.

In 2016 Portugal got a real fortunate draw through the knockout stages, squeaked their way to wins in the R16 and QF, got dominated by France in the final. France somehow couldn't get the ball in the net and Portugal ran out winners in extra time.

Likewise in 2012 Spain were great apart from in the semi final against Portugal who had plenty of chances to win it. But they got to penalties and won it there.

In 2004 Greece were in with a whisker of going out at the group stage then 1-0'd their way to the trophy.

My favourite example though is 1992. Denmark didn't even qualify for the tournament, and were brought in as a replacement for Yugoslavia as they had been sanctioned by the UN.

A late challenge full on studs?
Anywhere else on the pitch and nobody would be complaining.

You could argue Kane had already missed with the shot but still late and aggressive.
As for Gary Neville an hour earlier he was discussion how Van Basten had to retire early cause "they weren't protected as well back in the day"
 
You could argue that they were both going for the same ball at the same time it was not a challenge on Kane but going for the ball

It was a 50-50 challenge. Both entitled to go for it IMO.
HOWEVER. If it was a foul then you could argue it should have been a red because he was the last man.

Dumfries is sticking a leg out to block the ball and Kane catches the bottom of Dumfries' boot on his follow through. I'd be equally dumbfounded if it was anywhere else on the pitch.

Dumfries is moving forward , studs up, doesn't touch the ball and follows through Kanes foot.

I think for it to be a red you have to have prevented a clear goal scoring opportunity. At the time of this foul, if it was one, the opportunity had gone coz he’d already skied it over the bar!
