Got my first keg a few weeks ago and all was fine I noticed my beer had lost some fizz after a 10 pints or so one night so got out the super 30 co2 canister. Gave it a blast and removed it, the top valve started hissing at me, I assumed I'd put to much pressure in and this was the valve releasing the excess. Anyway, I went back for a pint today and the brew, still a good 30 pints (guesstimate) left, was flat and dribbling out of the tap (compared with the torrent of before), also this time whilst pouring the top valve was hissing again, this stopped when I closed tap. I got the canister out again and the same thing happened, a 1 second blast, valve released, poured a pint, no force and the valve hissed again.

Any ideas?

is there an elastic band round the base of the valve?? if so its the simple prv device used and sometimes it can stick or get a particle wedged in it, give it a bit of manipulation and try the gas again .. if its knackered its a cheap spare found in every homebrewshop.

there may be a similar smaller band valve on the inside aspect of the valve and it could be the leak, so if the first manipulation fails, pull the lid and try manipulation of the inner smaller valve band.

Is it definately the valve hissing? Mine sometimes does this but it's a poor seal around the lid, usually due to the lid washer malforming - flipping the washer over and re-seating it usualy cures it for me.

Yeah it's definitely the valve, I can put my finger on it and stop the leak.

if its coming up thru the centre of the valve, then its a very strong indicator that the inside lacky band needs a wee fiddle ;) or at worst replacing
