I'm a kit brewer at the moment. I buy a certain type of beer kit and brew it Quite happy with that.
However I like to play... and was wondering instead of using the yeasts supplied with each kit, would there be any benefit in purchasing a different type of yeast to use. How do you choose ? where do you purchase them from ? I've browsed white labs etc but I can't see me sending for one vial of yeast from America... :)
I make the kit yeasts into starters but have a fancy to use some of the " named " yeasts, kit yeasts by their nature I would think are very generic, most are un-named, as I say I'd like to play a bit.
Is extract brewing or biab brewing exerting their pull..... or worse AG brewing...

O.K simplistic AG brewing known as BIAB :D you know what I mean

I dont live in the UK so cant vouch for where to buy yeasts but I think its definatly worth using other yeasts.

I brewed a coopers pilsner with a small BIAB and used a Belgian wyeast and could not believe the difference it made, tastes just like a belgian ale!

yes defo with using better yeasts and imho liquid yeasts are the best , its a massive improvement by using some dried malt extract , some hops and some liquid yeast you can get beer almost as good as all grain
