Put my first kit on last night (Brupaks Colne Valley bitter).

Aerated the wort as much as I could and set up with wort heater.

Now 12 hours in and no real sign of any head forming yet.

Room temp is 19/20C, with wort temp being a little high at 23C - so i have turned down the wort heater a little (factory set at around 22C).

Should I be seeing any head yet - or am I worrying (and interfering) too much?

Before I started using yeast starters this was a common occurence, and made me nervous too.

Make a yeast starter 12-24hrs or so before your planned brew. Preferably give the yeast some malt-water to start on, but some sugar water will work too. Temperature wise, I try and keep the temp the same as my planned pitching temp, as less shock to the yeasties, should mean quicker and better fermentation with a clean and crisp flavour.

If you picthed dry yeast, this must still hydrate and then start their metabolising process before you'll see activity. I'm sure you'll see activity and some krausen in the next 12-18 hrs.

Cheers for the info regarding future brews, Buzzer.

Turns out it's me being a born worrier!
I've just got back in and there's a nice head formed on me beer (24hrs after pitching) so I'm well happy.
