Anyone on here glued to the 20/20 cricket??
I love it. Not sure England are good enough to win it.
My moneys on NZ

Yeah, loving it, I think we've a good chance against NZ on Wednesday, trouble with 20/20 is it only takes one performance to change the game, I suppose that's the beauty of it but it certainly makes it difficult to call..........

England are good enough to win it. But so are New Zealand, India and WI. Lottery time!

...and the IPL starts again soon, and then the cricket here!
like a complete nut Ive signed on for another season playing (I'm 62)
but I do enjoy bowling out all the kids who want to hit me out the park..
...its like taking candy from a baby
Possibly mild child abuse!
Lets hope we all have a great summer, to get those brews on.

I'm not a particularly big cricket fan but I was watching it in the pub yesterday as there was no footie showing. India were playing Australia

Englands bating line up seems pretty strong but I am not sure about the attack, that said our last few games our attack had improved, the death bowling from Stokes and Jordan was excellent against Sri Lanka.

Englands success in this format all seems to hinge on a few players Root and Butler clicking in their innings..

Absolute rubbish. OK for schools or clubs. What a hopeless concept for international cricket. An absolute lottery - biff it as hard & far as you can. Is it caught or is it six? Loads of sixes, you win. Less lucky, and several catches then you lose.
Test cricket is what it says - a test - and one that really sorts out the most skilful and mentally tough competitors.

Well, that's what I always thought - still do really. But you have to say that Kohli's innings to knock out Australia was something really special.
Can England win it - well of course, yes. Any team can win this with luck on their side. Play this tournament, with these teams, 100 times, and Afghanistan would win it more than once, I'm sure.
So, yes, I'm following it. And the England women too. Tough game against the Aussies on Wednesday.
I do feel that a lot of the pitches aren't conducive to entertaining 20/20 - and this particularly disadvantages the women. Slow, sticky pitches where 90 can be a winning score is not what this ridiculous format should be all about!!

As an afterthought - I must complain about the radio coverage yesterday. England v Pakistan and India v Australia happening at the same time. England needed to win, or at least not lose heavily to get to the semi-finals.
So, the BBC decide to broadcast the India/Australia match instead.
Fortunately, the women's match was equally as one-sided as a lot of the men's matches have been - otherwise I'd have been well hacked off.

As rediculous as the format may be, it's growing exponentially in popularity and bringing in a wave of new fans to the sport. Exactly what they originally set out to do with the T20, plus allows some of the smaller nations/minnows to compete internationally and grow the sport from a grassroots level.

It may be a slog-a-thon, but it's entertaining to those who don't usually watch cricket (such as my Mrs). I love my tests and ODIs, but to be able to sit down for a few hours and watch a bit of 'entertainment' (rather than 'cricket'), it ticks all the boxes.

Kohli really did a number on us Aussies though. In all fairness, the Aussies didn't look like getting out of their group from the start. Pretty poor performances IMO.

Yep, that's what it should be all about - but I worry that the present trend is not to encourage the smaller ("associate") nations at all, but to maximise revenue for the "big" teams

It is easy for my kids to understand and follow it, but it is a bit more of a lottery.

I think just about every cricket lover I know (myself included) thinks Test cricket is where it is at. Some people say to me how can you watch a game for 5 days and be happy with a draw.. but when that draw is (usually England) hanging on for dear life for 8 hours then it is entertaining... I think its a game you eitehr get it or don't.. T20 is perhaps more open to people

What does worry me is the sub continent seem to favour it over every other format.. and it shows sometimes as it does seem to screw up test batsmens test form. Cook was a lot better when he ditched ODIs and was able to get back to leaving the ball.

Good replies chaps and good to see some 'Fans"???
Test cricket is the purest form but
20/20, big bash stuff is where the money is...
and clubs need money
I see Sussex CC posted another loss this year

Agree with all the above posts. With the t 20,it is the format that got my 13 year old daughter into cricket.I wasn't selling the 4 day game' 3 retirees, 2 post men and a dog game to her a few years back. Now she's been a member at northants for 4 years, doesn't mind a day at a 4 dayer with the sunday starts if her mates go down. Knows most of the test playing teams and the laws. We try an catch a day or 2 , summer tests, Lords 10 quid for kids.Even managed a day in galle , sri lanka at 40degrees.The associates need more cricket , even like when the dutch were playing in our 1 day domestic league. Don't know were the t 2 is heading , talk of a city based franchise . once again the smaller counties getting shafted.I think the E.C. B. should count the losses of the smaller counties as a lost leader really just to keep interest in the game. look what happened to the windies test game.Northants are down 200 odd K, that's with full houses(6000) on a friday evening, drinking steelbacks lager, most not watching cricket. And get it back on t.v. I could go on. Can't wait till april me:)

Agree entirely Dave..well written
I and my son play for a well run village club and we couldn't survive without an overseas player. Everyone has one!! Its mad. Our last one plays for Holland and we have also had one who played for Oz at under 18 level... and the whole scene is crackers. Our first and second elevens play at the top of the County Laegue, so you are basically the best teams under the the County Eleven and its murder, all the while trying to compete with all the other clubs around you. In fact there are too many cricket clubs playing saturdays...and thats where the problem lays. In sussex thay have changed the game rules for next year, so there will only be a win/loose situation to stop all this blocking out a draw scenario ....Oh I could go on but won't.. cos this is a BEER forum!!

'Yeah, loving it, I think we've a good chance against NZ on Wednesday'................Well I called that correctly, easy victory thanks to a great last 4 overs bowling and a brilliant start from Jason Roy, worth celebrating with a beer maybe :)

 grat performance today, probably our best this tornament.. really strangled NZ at the end..

Our bowling at the start of this tornament was really loose but seems to have hit a groove especially at the death.. lets hope we can just do that one last game
