Hi
I'm 3 days into brewing my first batch of wine. It's a sample kit to make 4.5 litres of Elderflower wine.
The recipe advised to only use 1.8litres of water to start with, but all of the 450g sugar. Because of this the SG hydrometer reading was off the scale, because the remainder of the water isn't to be added until day 3, so the ratios are all out.
Is there a way to get a proper hydrometer reading so that I can eventually calculate ABV% of the finished product? If I take one when all the water is added, the yeast will have already been very busy so I imagine this will make the calculation inaccurate...?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
JC
