Wilko oxi plus stain remover

Found the above in Wilko's to clean my equipment before sanitising.

Anyone used it and if so any good?

Sometimes use it. Find that it leaves a lot of residue behind (hard water area). Sodium percabonate sold in homebrew shops seems to leave less residue for me but is more expensive.

I use it and it can leave a chalky residue behind (also a hard water area). Washes off easily enough.

However, when I've run out I'm going to investigate sodium precarbinate off eBay

I have used Wizz Oxi from B & M, which is basically the same stuff.
It is excellent as a cleaner but wear gloves when using it - it really dries out the skin.
It is especially good for soaking the crud left on FVs after fermentation.
Use one scoop in 2 litres for general cleaning, 2 scoops for stubborn stuff.
Make sure that you rinse equipment well after application.
I've had trouble with a residue once only - soaking bottles overnight to remove labels.
A vinegar rinse got rid of it.

The active ingredient in these type of oxi cleaners is sodium percarbonate. In oxi cleaners the percentage is usually about 5%. You can buy 70% SP on ebay. Iirc even though it' more expensive than the oxi cleaners it works out cheaper and you dont get all the stuff you dont want/need for brewing like surfacants etc

Don’t use oxy anymore due to getting fed up with the chalky film.

PBW is much more effective but at a price. But I find I’m much less wasteful with it due the the costs and when bought in bulk it more reasonably priced.

regarding the chalky deposit (which I get with both types) I don't like to leave soaking for more than half an hour and then starsan removes any deposit.

The chalky deposit isnt from the oxy/sodium percarbonate. It's the mineral leeching out of your water. The harder the water the more deposits

Are you in the UK? If so where abouts do you buy PBW in bulk?

Brew U.K. do buckets of it but it’s a big investment.

Wilko oxyclean is only 30% concentrate of sodium percarbonate while the brewclean is 70%. You need to use more to get the same effects then you have all the left over gunk to clean out. Defeats the purpose of using a no rinse sanitiser if you are going to rinse it out with unsanitised water.

I made the expensive move to starsan. Love it.

Oxi cleaners like WizzOxi are much cheaper than PBW, so the lower concentration of sodium percarbonate is offset by the lower price.
Oxi cleaners, including Brew Clean and PBW, are not no-rinse sanitisers; they are cleaners. They must be rinsed off before the application of a sanitising solution.

Same as, need to hide it from the wife as she prefers it in the wash as well.
