I went in earlier to get the woodfordes wherry kits and noticed that wilko doin their own range now at £10. Has anyone tried them? any good for the price or best to stay clear

I have done the golden ale 2 can kit & it turned out pretty good, it was £22 and the wherry is £15 i would go for the latter though.

Sorry to update an old thread but I've just been on their website and all the £10 own brand kits come with free brewing sugar. Ordered the Golden Lager and a Cerveza myself, got to be worth £20 for 80 pints all in!

I wasn't that keen to try them before but got to be worth a go at this price, even if just to give away at Xmas...

Actually, I tell a lie, I changed my mind at the last minute and went for the delicate pilsner and a cerveza. I'll report back with my "research results"

Just ordered a cerveza and velvet stout. I have 3 more brews on my to do list before these though (coopers stout, JB IPA, wherry) but couldn't resist. They won't be straight kits though they will be partials with some added grains and hops and any other experimental additions. I'm already thinking about possibly giving the stout sweeter flavours and the cerveza an amigos/desperados flavour as something different.

Oh and seen as I decided to order online I had to make the most of the postage and buy another DJ, after all I do have an airlock sat unused in it's packet :D.

I have done a few of the wilko's kits and they are alright for the price. I have done a newkie brown and the Mexican. The newkie is awesome and a friend that drinks the commercial equivalent had to double take on it at a taste test. The Mexican was alright but kind of reminded me of what you get on a Spanish all inclusive. Cheap buy gets the job done.

hmm, saw these and was tempted by the cerveza kit. After reading this might just have to pop down and grab one. Well can't have an empty fermenter when this next lot is bottled ;)

Like I said the cerveza reminds me of a all inclusive holiday beer. But it's still enjoyable and I added some lime cordial and it seemed to balance the flavours out. I worked it out at 27p per pint so you really can't argue at that.

Just got my kits - they forgot the brewing sugar so I'll have to ring and complain...

Damn, no I didn't...

Whoops :D

On a serious note you would think that with it being an offer they would automatically add the sugar or at least make it more clear that you need to add it.

Called them and their sending it out with an extra free bag. Can't fault the service :)
