Like most of us I keep an eye on Ebay for bits & bobs that may come in handy. The other day I saw a grain mill and stuck it in my "watch" box. I want to do small amounts of special malt myself. Well it's finished up with 13 bids, the winning bid was £31.56 plus £10 p&p....I got a new one from Northern tool for £29.99 +£6 p&p....am I doing something wrong or what??? :wha:

I think postage charges will eventually kill or curtail e bay

You have a point there PD. I don't understand it when there are parcel firms around who charge a lot less. Hermes will do a 3kg for £3.74.

i've just got stung by p&p , 3 of 4 gb memory sticks £1.30 each so £3.90 (amazing price) but £6 p&p , its only cuz i can't buy 3 for under £10 in a shop otherwise i wouldn't of bothered .

It really is an odd game on eBay innit, I'm looking for two items, both fishing related, an old split cane coarse match rod about 12 foot and a wooden centrepin reel to go with it, I actually want to use them as I did with my dad when I was a kid.

eBay have quite a few come up, but they either go for silly money because of collectors and they've got a name on them or they go for nothing and I often miss out because I'm outbid by a few pence. Kicking myself over a particular rod that went for £10.01 and £4 postage :?

On the other hand I'm actually selling some gear at the moment on there and it'sa great way of passing on a boxful of surplus stuff and making just a few bob on it rather than eventually throwing it away bit by bit :!:

But as you say it's rather odd that people don't seem to realise they're sometimes paying over the odds

ps .... anyone interested in several boxes of quality fly tying gear I've accumulated over the last half centuary, the fingers are knackered now and the eyesights not far behind it

Have any of you used Jbidwatcher? Its a sniping program which bids for you a few seconds before the end of the auction, it really handy for when you're not around to bid or want to catch a bargain. I've missed out on a few ebay bargains because of auctions ending when I'm at work...it doesn't help out with ludicrous P&P charges though!

Isn't that just similar to automatic bidding on eBay where you put in a maximum amount you're prepared to bid to etc :?:

Not at all, it doesn't bid until the auction is about to end, so there is no possibility of someone shill bidding to raise the price. . . . I use AuctionSniper . . . I work out what I am willing to pay including PnP then that amount goes into auction sniper . . . If by the auction end it's higher than that . . . well I would have lost it anyway . . . because my max bid is my max bid

use memorybits.co.uk mate, they're cheap as chips!

why use a program that charges when a bit foreplanning to put an alarm in and a bit of patience- btw i think the tactics are half the fun in ebay-esp buying stuff listed at silly times of day when noones watching- when dancing on ice is on for eg

Jbidwatcher is free no need to pay, you could use the alarm method however I am lazy and the program does it all for me :thumb:

Hi I think some people use the P&P to increase their profit if the item sells cheaply. I bought a pair of carbon fibre handlebars for £11+ £7.00 P&P on ebay!! (the stamp weighed more than the bars)!!
