Why is the Young's Porter kit 17.5L not 23L like their others?

Does anyone know?
And, what would happen if you made it 23L?

(I'm very new to this, had Young's AIPA kit for Christmas which is out in the garage in the PB, fingers crossed)

If you make it up to 23L it will be correspondingly weaker in alcohol and possibly taste a bit thinner.

The AIPA has a lot of dextrose in the kit IIRC which bumps up the alcohol content without really adding to the body of the beer. I imagine that adding extra sugar to bump a porter up so that it is the same ABV but 40 pints rather than 30 pints mgiht result in a beer thats a bit thin for the style.

Are the ingredients more expensive for the Porter?
Otherwise why not make the kit produce the same volume?

Well yes. The kit has the same amount of pre hopped LME (3kg) as the AIPA. You would need as third as much again.

Or piut a different way, ingredients for 40 Pints of AIPA include a load of inexpensive sugar
