Why I don't bother to read the papers

We know this guy unfortunately - he was out cycling with a group from a cycling club when he suddenly slumped forward over his handlebars and fell off the bike. Clearly he's suffered some kind of massive stroke/heart attack/annuerism - but what he most certainly did NOT die from falling off his bike!!!

If a paper can't report something as simple as this accurately, what hope is there of ANYTHING being reported accurately???

they are awful with stuff like this. that's why the big ones are always using inverted commas; " " ; in case they're wrong.

i dont think "west heath" has ever made it into the papers - they always call us northfield for some reason

Haven't read a newspaper for years, they're not interested in 'the truth' or accurate reporting only in making a profit :twisted:

Years ago I was attacked by a nutcase with a knife, he'd cut me a couple of times, but with a bit of good luck and timing I managed to connect a fist to his face and while he was half out of it took the knife off him and with help he was locked up. Lucky for me my injuries weren't bad or unduly serious, unlucky for him I fractured his cheekbone with my lucky punch.

Fast forward ...... in court I was in the WITNESS box and pilloried by his defence 'cos I'd fractured his cheek, the judge did point out that I was defending myself, 'adjourned for reports' for one week.

The local rag had a hell of a go at me 'cos I'd seriously injured this man, they forgot to mention the feckin knife etc :evil:

The next week back in court the judge sent the 2hat to prison for 5 years, he'd a lot of previous for violence, I was commended in court for 'very brave actions' ...... the newspaper never made any comment, an apology, no chance :!: Buy a newspaper ...... :nono:

Sadly the truth rarely sells newspapers, it's the exageration that sells, so the papers exagerate, or revise within limits. The better the paper the tighter the limits.

It used to be that the local rags were the ones with the higher reporting standards, their reporters live near the folk they report on, so usually respect them and work hard to get the facts. Looks like they didn't work too hard on this then?

I never read or buy a paper, they're full of propaganda and lies to keep us all scared to think for ourselves or to think about stepping of the stearnly enforced line.

And as stated the whole truth is very rarely printed. :nono:

All newspapers have a political affiliation and the news they put forward leans towards that affiliation, and we all know how much truth Politicians talk.
Even the tv news programs do the same. I remember at one time the 6 o clock news was just that. Very straight laced and perhaps rather boring, but it reported the news. Its all changed now.
Have you noticed news very rarely happens on a Sunday ( unless its a good juicy disaster ) it gives politicians time to earn their appearance fees on " political chat shows " Telling us all how the current government policies are crap and how they will do what we want them to do, if only we'd vote them back into " Power ".
An old saying is..... " Make your politician work for a living..... don't vote for him. "

At the present their only goal in life is to line their own pockets, legally or illegaly and to keep the rest of us beaten down to keep working for nothing. so they can continue their extravagant lifestyles.

One politician was moaning the other day his champagne bill has had to be halved last year.... I've never drunk proper Champagne.

I bet there's not many take their " sarnies " to work in a plastic supermarket box ( not even Tupperware usually a cheaper brand )

But please don't get me on about Politicians.... it even hurts to use a capital P to describe them.

I only read the Private Eye except for the occasional free newspaper when I'm bored commuting

it a satircal paper but has good news and prints letters from critics if they get stuff wrong.

My dad came over at the weekend and brought the Daily Hate Mail with him - I filed it in the circular filing cabinet when he wasn't looking.

All the decent columns are gone all ours is filled with is people ridding a bike for corporate charities, and the latest story about some local business person winning some irrelevant award, oh and some local yob who has got a slapped wrist for armed robbery.

As for TV and polititians don't get me started. The BBC is so biasd towards the left (not that I would thank you for it being right winged either). They talked us into a recession and every time we start to recover they talk us back into doom and gloom.

Give it a Fecking rest and we might stand a chance of getting back to normal.

That's a pet peeve of mine too.

As soon as we start to behave a little normally as a nation and the embers of a recovery start to be kindled the media steps in and starts to piss on the bonfire. You'll notice that any positive story will be prefixed by "surprise" or "unexpected" and reported halfway down the running order where as any negative news it bold as brass and in your face at the start of the bulletin.

The paper headline clearly states "cyclist dies in fall from bike" which implies it was the fall from the bike that killed him.

As I said, we KNOW HIM and the people he was cycling with, and they SAW HIM slump over his bars and collapse.

Whatever the cause of him losing consciousness was, that is what killed him, not the fall from the bike!

And that's my point - the headline is deliberately misleading - there is nothing in the article to back it up, and nothing in reality to back it up. So yes, I will slate the paper for it, because they deliberately wrote a misleading title in order to sell the story :evil:

Agreed that the headline is mis-leading, but we dont know any facts.
