Well it was that time again...The dreaded MOT.

Ive had my Landrover Discovery TD5 now for 7 yrs. in that time its mileage has gone from 72,000 to the now eye watering 212,000.

It has had:-

1) 1 clutch
2) 2 sets of rear air springs
3) a door latch and key fob
4) regular servicing
5) 2 sets of discs and pads
6) fuel pump

It gets used everyday, shifting the kids to school, shifting me to work, shifting stuff to the tip, shifting casks to and from brewery, shifting malt from Maltings to the brewery, towing trailers etc

at least 3 times a year is crammed to the brim with camping stuff and takes us all to far flung parts of the UK, it powers the tent from the leisure battery fitted when no hook up is available. It rarely gets a good wash, the sunroofs leak, it has scratches and dints all over it

So with trepidation and expecting a large dollop of "open wallet surgery" I took the Landrover to the garage this morning. I secretly had looked at a few L200 Doublecabs to replace it if the garage gave me news that I could not afford...(Nice newshape Animal doublecab priced reasonably, locally)

Well....the news is good....It passed again, straight through, nowt to spend...So no Doublecab for another year....Happy times

Anyone who owned one of these.

Funnily enough we were just talking this morning about how much cars have changed since the rustbuckets of old :!:

I don't *quite* know where I stand on this...

...because they really are (with the exception, clearly, of your landie!!).

But then, there is *something* about them. The Allegro Vanden Plas with it's full on walnut and leather interior was something else. The quartic (??? really??? quartic??? It was effing square!!! You don't have to rename the ruddy square!!!) steering wheel was a thing of beauty... OK, no it wasn't...

Even at the top end they were ****. A Lotus customer complained to Colin Chapman about having to lash a pint of oil into his brand new Elan every 500 miles. Chapman's response? "My dear fellow, ALL cars use oil..."

And that wasn't the worst of the problems with Lotus. Electrics seem to be controlled by the weather, fluids of all varieties seemed to prefer not to be constrained by the car's plumbing...

...but the fact is, I love them. And not just the Lotus, all British cars of a certain era.

I've now got to get the cash together to bring my +2 back to life. :thumb:

That's pretty impressive :hat:

My Alhambra only has 164k on the clock.

Can anybody beat it?

My Iveco daily camper has 284,000 on it. It drives beautifully. 2.8 Diesel.

But aren't they Spanish or something?

I had a Rover 75 2.5V6 from new. 5 years and 120k later, it had a set of disks and pads an it had a ticking noise so I flogged it (Rover couldn't find a problem with it - diagnostics and readings gave nothing away). Turns out I'd managed to gather some **** in the engine which had crept through a faulty fuel filter. A quick clean later and it purred again.

Other than fuel economy, I wish I'd never got rid of it

@robbarwell,
I love the mixture of clear pleasure that your old Landy passed its MOT and sorrow that you couldn't have a new one.

I come down on the I'm pleased it passed side of the fence.

There's something very satisfying about getting your old faithful the test.

One of mine is a relatively young P1 Yaris vintage 1999 and the other is a VW T3 1989, fortunately I only have to pace the waiting room floor every 2 years.

Two years ago I got rid of my 12 year old Nissan engined TX1 taxi ( made in Coventry by Carbodies), it had 376,000 on the clock and never needed a major overhaul. It is still working locally.
Geoff

I hate to say it but "I work there!"

I think I've got 215k on the Volvo... I'll check later...

Mine has 260k. 2002 V40 2.0T.

Can I manage 45k in three years...? :hmm:

In 3 years mine will be at 320k... Unless the wheels fall off. :D

Once I saw V70 with 750k and that's my target. ;)

I have had my Landrover 110 for twenty two years now. Each MOT I expect the worst, but she still keeps going.
