Hi.

I'm after some details of these kits but the only " Young's " I can find is a wholesaler and delivery company. I emailed them anyway but they haven't even acknowledged my mail.

So if you know who makes these kits please post the name and I'll try asking them.

All I want to know is ibu. values for the bitter and pilsner kits so its nothing complicated.

Actually I think a list of who manufactures what would be an interesting Sticky.

Thanks for your help.

I would say that 90% of the UK kits are made by Muntons. . . One or two other smaller companies are used to make some of the others (and the beggar won't tell me who they are    )

When i contacted the sales e-mail address from their website i received a decent response pretty quickly.

The Muntons plc site is a bit light on numbers, but I estimated their market share in the UK (for beer kits) to be around 70%. This involves a great deal of "licking a finger and holding it up in the air to feel which way the wind blows". My guess is that perhaps a couple of million beer kits a year are sold in the UK each year. Coopers may be the dominant brand amongst informed, repeat single can kit brewers, but Muntons supply a LOT of outlets with different wrappers around their cans. In economic terms, it's a small company - £78m T/O and 277-ish employees.

Apparently Muntons shipped over 500,000 kits in 2012...

Thanks for this Callum, that is a lot fewer than I guessed.
That would mean the UK kit market is probably less than a million units a year.
Still, I'm doing my best :D
