Similar to a BOT it's an Internet search robot which trawls the site to index it so that correct links are returned when people search for words and phrases.

It all sounds very sinister to me, BB is watching and Bots and Spiders are weedling their ways into every thread and analysing every word that's posted. Barstewards! :evil:
