hi folks 5 days in to my first evert brew which is a wherry kit all is going ok the brew smells like beer now and was producing co2 nicely in fv. im going to leave it 10 to 14 days in the fv before kegging in pressure barrell but i do have a couple of q's

1. when i tested my brew with the hydrometer i noticebits floating in the brew in the test vial which im guessing is normal? sif it is normal should i use a finnings at the end and leave for a couple of days to help erradicate this

2. how much sugar should i add to prime barrel around 24l of brew going in.

3. how long should i leave it before drinking

4. was going to barrell and leave in warm place for a couple of days then put out in the garage where its a lot cooler is this advisable

brew tasted ok but flat today when i supped test vial, then followed that with a vial of alchohl wash ive brewed for the wife to mix with cordials or essences

has anybody got any thoughts on these washes too

cheers in advance
rob

Floaty bits at this stage is fine. Relax, they'll drop out eventually.

Priming load for a barrel is about 80-90g usually.

Leave it as long as you possibly can! I don't keg mine but I usually leave a good month and I try for at least two in the bottle.

Your strategy is spot on, leave it a week in the house to get that secondary fermentation done then off to the garage for a month then enjoy!

Wherry is notoriously slow to clear so if you can move it to the garage whilst still in the FV for a couple of days in the cool it will help.
It will obviously clear in the barrel which is fine if you never have to move it until it is empty ;)

It will be flat at the moment as it is only when stored under pressure that the CO2 is absorbed.

Wherry was the first brew I did after being bought a starter kit last Xmas ,mine cleared in a pressure barrel quite quickly ,I was sampling it after 4 or 5 days and drinking it after a week . .It's a top quality kit ,but not quite to my taste .

I encouraged a friend of mime to start brewing.... he started drinking his first Wherry whilst it was still in the FV!

Hey All,
I'm brewing up a beer a made last year that calls for a lot of Nelson Sauvin hops which I don't seem to be able to get hold of ?! What is the best alternative hop that with match its characteristics?

Thanks !
