Where Can I Get A Good Beer In Manchester?

Hi folks,
I'm going to a gig in Manchester a week on Monday....it's at the Academy IIRC.
Does anyone know a good pub close by where I can get a decent drink before the show?

I know where you can get a good beer in Manchester, but not near the Academy unfortunately as thats not my stomping ground.

If you can be bothered to venture up to the Northern Quarter then these are worth a try

Port Street Beer House, lots of Craft Beer.
Marble Arch, home of the magnificent Marble brewery, in my opinion you won't find a better pint in Manchester.
The Angel, nice pub, good food, fine selection of Ale.

Simple. Go to Victoria station and get a train to Liverpool. You'll thank me in the end.

There's nothing spectacular near the academy itself. northern quarter is the best.
