When to add Oak chips?

So...ordered a 6 bottle California Connoisseur(Had to look up spelling of that!) Rioja kit :lol: and also bought some oak chips. When do you add the oak chips? Also how much?

I was going to just add them at the beginning with everything else? And probably go for around 30grams is that too much?

30g for 6 bottles is somewhat excessive. 6 would be more appropriate.
