Hello all,

I am a 24yo interested in home brewing. My grandfather did it and I hear tales of his beers and wines and hoped to follow in his footsteps. I am very keen on real ales and have still not signed up for CAMRA yet, but attend festivals when I can.

I am hoping to make my own mead as it seems a good place to start. Just need to get the equipment and then I am ready.

HI, Im new too, my grandad was a brewer too, used to help him on saturday brewing, if i manage half as good a brew i will be happy

Mead may not be the best place to start - good honey's expensive and it takes quite along time to mature (and sometimes to ferment)

Berry season's just getting into full swing, consider a mixed berry|currant wine. About 3lbs, not more than 2/3rds raspberries and at least 4oz blackcurrants, maybe 4oz of raisins for wine-iness, and some tannin, with about a kilo of sugar (all this for a gallon)

Thanks all.

Currently looking at getting the equipment and doing my homework. The plan is to one day make my own beers and ciders from scratch. Doing to start with a kit and work my way from there in small steps.

The Joes Ancient Orange Mead seems really simply recipe so, I will give that a try first.

Simon.
