Right then I need my fellow brewers opinion. This month I have given myself £120 to spend on brewing in general. So iv come up with 2 options but I just don't know what to pick.

Option 1) Cornie Keg Starter setup kit

Option 2) Boiling Pan and equipment for partial grain brewing along with a partial grain kit?

I think I know what most of you will say.

I'd go for the pan and partial kit because your going to make better beer (if your making kits that is). A corny will possibly get you better served beer plus you can force carb so you can knock time off when you drink your brews, but I'd rather have better tasting beer

Yeh I was swaying that way myself and I knew the outcome from yourselves would be go for the pan. Beside I have my mini kegs :D ill go for a cornie setup on my day of birth. Ha

It is a one horse race this
For partial mash a 15 liter pot will serve and you can do 10ltr AG batches in.. even though I went and bought a 50l pot its still in use as I store my milled grains in (and small batches)

Rob.

I've been brewing on and off, in one form or another for over 35 years.
Of all the beers i've ever done, they've always been kits.

6 or so weeks ago, i took the plunge and did my first ever all grain.
The recipe i just made up. (with a little assistance on here also)
The beer is now just getting to the drinking stage, it's certainly at the sampling stage.
And even though it's not yet fully cleared, i've already sampled a few pints, and it is, without doubt, the best beer i've ever made.

Also £120, would just about get you a 30l boiler and a mash tun.

I guess you know my answer. ??

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have a question about Corny kegs. I got some yesterday and bought the regulator and gauges that attach to the co2 bottle. I'm wondering if I need to buy food grade pure co2. A place close by to me does mixed gas 70/30 which it says is for Stout and ale and 60/40 which it says is for larger and cider. As 19 litres could last me a month could the beer go off with the mixes?

Me too. :thumb:

Funny, I had a feeling you would say that!
But yeah defo get the pan or go straight for a BIAB kit you can still use that for partial mashes and for when you move on to full AG......

So do we know where I can get a BIAB kit within my price range??? I cant go over the budget iv set.

Looks like a good buy. So can you tell me what I need to buy for the wort chiller in terms of piping and connecters and where to buy??? Also what els do I need to buy that isn't in the kit that I will need??? Thermometer etc? If I buy the kit I want to make sure I have everything

Simple method is to use jubilee clips and just attach standard garden hose to either end, a better and less likely to leak method is to get 10mm - 15mm compression couplers and then attach hozelock type fittings, there is a thread somewhere with details of how to do this.

Mash paddle and thermometer should be enough to get you started, I assume you probably have everything else already from kit brewing

Cheap hozelock fittings (own brand version) at B&Q

Compression coupler can also get at B&Q but cheaper at screwfix or plumbing supplier

and get a roll of PTFE for sealing the connections

I use a big spoon as a mash paddle! - we are only talking about partial mashes at the moment, maybe 2kg of grain. I've used a big hand whisk too, stirring the mash gently, the whisk breaks up and lumps well.

You do need a thermometer. Mine is a simple glass brewing thermometer, £3-4 ish.

HBC do a kit for £71 after discount and includes postage and you get a free ingredient kit really good kit for the money
