What's everyones favourite sypon methods, its getting to be that time when I'm going to need to and I'm wondering if the 3 1/2 foot bit of tube I've got is going to do the trick.
Turkey baster Snail, very hygienic, on reading this I will now be modifying my procedure and cutting off the last 2 inches of siphon tube, after I have sucked the beer though to get it flowing, before placing into to FV.
As Snail suggests those clips, or some sort of clamping device, is essential to hold the tube firm, or for sure you will end up the the end wandering and stirring up the yeast deposit during the process.

P.S. On thinking about it, is not home brew only for domestic consumption. :?
I still use the Armstrong method :P
I use a piece of pvc tube (about 2M) about 12mm in dia, and HOLD it on to the FV at the top, SUCK the end to get it started, place my finger over the end and then place it into the barrel and let it flow, moving the end down as it gets down the beer. I used to use one similar to the earlier post when I made wine in gal batches (about 30 years ago now :wha: )
I keep meaning to get one of those fancy clips but never got round to it, and either use my hand or a clothes peg
I fitted taps with hozelock ends on my fermentation and bright bottles and attach a in-line filter/reducer i nicked out of a basic patio microbore irrigation kit attached in turn to 10mm clear tube into the recieving bottle/keg/bucket and crack the tap.. the taps sit about 3 inches above the sediment and when the level drops i just start tipping the bottle until only sediment remains.. when kegging n bottleing i bottle up first then let the remains fill the keg..
I treated myself to a top bit of kit... a stainless steel racking tube, i used it once.... and have been using the taps ever since
I use a regular syphon tube with a sediment trap and clip to hold it on to the fv. On the other end i have a small tap attached then attach a short piece of tube to the tap, suck to get the beer past the tap. Then i close the tap, remove the short piece that i've contaminated with my lips and replace it with a longer piece that will reach the bottom of my barrel so the tap sits just above the opening of the barrel. I then open the tap then fill my barrel. I also have a shorter piece that i use when bottling that is just longer than my bottles, so that the tap is just above the bottle. I fill the bottle to the brim, turn the tap off, remove the tube and the displacement of removing the tube gives me the right ullage.
