Hi,

I'm planning on making 23 litre batch size. What size mash tune should I go for?

I want to be able to make all beer styles including high gravity beers.

Thanks,
J

I have a 30 litre tun which I've used for 8 kilos of grain plus water. Wouldn't get much more than that in it but that's good for around 1.085 SG in a 23 litre batch.

I'd go for minimum 33ltrs. I've got a 33ltr coolbox one from the homebrew company and I can just manage 22.5ltr batches of 8.85kg grain plus 25ltr strike water for a strong Scotch ale which normally comes out at 8-8.5%abv.

As above, 30 or 33 ltr is a good size for most brews. I have a 24 ltr coolbox and can only just about fit 5.5kg of grain + water in there.

I went for a 38 litre thermopot in the end; I figure that if I want to do slightly bigger batches then I can. Hopefully I won't have an issue with too much headspace, but we'll see...
