Hi all

I have some old campden tablets and on the pack it says best used within 6 months of purchase. Is this essential? Do they go off?
Cheers
Andy

Old how old? Give the tub a good rattle then open the lid and stick your nose in a sniff, you will know.

If they are stored in a sealed container they should be good for ages.

My tub (Hambleton Bard, probably bought towards the back end of last year) doesn't even carry a date.

Asthmatics or anyone with breathing difficulties, DO NOT TRY HLA91's SUGGESTION TO STICK YOUR NOSE IN THE TUB AND GIVE IT A SNIFF!

Oh yeh did forget to mention that about, cheers for that Moley

I'm not asthmatic nor have any breathing difficulties but sniffing the tub of ancient Boots campden tablets left me with no nasle hairs and a shotness breath

I think mine were 2004!

I'll just buy some more, I think. Don't want to waste 5 gallons of wine for the sake of a couple of quid!
