Hi Guys,
Will soon be starting my third kit.
It will be a Coopers IPA, if the kit calls for a KG of fermentables what happens to the brew, its taste and strength if you use say a kilo and half of fermentables or even 2kgs.

You get a higher OG and, assuming all goes well, a higher ABV at the end.

Depending on what fermentables you put in there, you might get enhanced flavour depth etc.

FWIW I did this with exactly what it said in the instructions - 500g light spraymalt and 300g dextrose - and it's turned out to be an absolutely lovely pint.

Your the 2nd person to say this to me. I think I will do it as you say and use 500g spray malt and the dextrose.

It's always worth brewing a kit and following the instructions for the first time. Then keep some tasting notes.

Next time you brew you could try brewing the same kit but replacing the 300g of dextrose with another 500g of spray malt, then you can compare the difference.

Experimentation is the most intersting part of brewing.

What Steve said.

Experimentation is also the best bit of brewing because the only measure of the success of your brew is...?

...what it tastes like! :drink: :drunk:

addign 2kg of sugar with 1 tin of malt extract in 25 litres would likely result in pretty awful beer.

sugar is 100% fermentable so it will turn compeltely into alcohol. That is until the alcohol kills off the yeast, and you are left with residual sugar.

You will end up with a high strength, watery, thin, beer flavoured alcohol.

That said, I have not tried this (nor do I intend to!) but there is nothing stopping you from doing this and seeing what you think of it. However, compare that, to a premium kit brewed to instructions, and i guarantee you will notice the difference!
