What does your beer cost? do you want to know?

Hello all,

I may be committing a cardinal homebrewer sin here but..... my folks always laugh at me because of the amount I spend on my kit, and the amount I've ditched over time :sick: , my beer must cost more than it does in pubs. Well, to prove a point. I've calculated reasonably accurately what I've spent on equipment and consumables and divided by the number of 'drinkable' pints I've made assuming I can consume 10% of what I've got in the fermenting vessels. :ugeek:
So to all the naysayers,

From Jan 09 to Jul 10
Total brewed in pints = 1,368
Estimated total costs = £1,097.45
Cost per pint = £0.80 :)

I think thats reasonable. OK the earlier brews weren't great but I'm pretty pleased with the results now. :drink:

PS forgot to include the turbo cider, so even cheaper than that.

i personally dont care how much it cost i prefer proper beer and have been delighted with the results of my 1st 4 AG brews + TC's
I would assume after costing out electric/gas used time, materials, equipment you would still be in a win win situation :drink:

Its not about the cost it's about the fun for me, brewing is my hobby.

I've spent £50 on fermentables and probably £250 on equipment, I've probably drunk 10 pints of beer and 5 bottles of wine so far. I do have another a huge amount of wine maturing but I doubt I'll drink even a third of that myself.

An AG setup is next on the cards but I might have to wait a month or so, since I've bought another pair of cornies and hope to get a decent dispensing system this month.

My AG kit cost under a hundred quid and brews lovely beer grain, hops and yeast etc plus electric and water and I reckon a pint is around 60p tops - the best thing is that I brewed it and it tastes great and cost less then shop / pub prices :thumb: I brew lots of wine as well for the missus and family and friends - brewing wine is great fun and easy to do but i only drink it every so often - but love brewing it

Great hobby with an end result you can be very proud of :drink:
