Brewdog...I got that recipe. Must get round to doing it .
i have high hopes! although a bit blind on Ph as used half Tecos irish spring water that doesnt state bicarbonates, and the battery was flat in my yellow ph meter that ive only used once ( must have left it on!) . Dark ale with half soft and half hard water ( im guessing) hopefully should balance out!

Was looking for something to do, so did a brew on spare of the moment. Been wanting to do a fruit porter for a while, looked in the cupboards to see what I could use.. seems it'll be a lingonberry jam porter then! Used M-15 yeast and plenty of Munich so should hopefully have the body and lower attenuation to balance the berries

Just finished my brewday (at 2pm- started at 5am!) brewed the stone brewery imperial stout from BYO.
Hit the SG bang on too! Only time will tell if it ferments out to the desired 10.7%
Do you think I could have perhaps fit any more in my mash tun?

10.7% oooh nice a decent strength beer, cant stand weak session stuff. athumb..

My second go at a Beamish clone. The first one turned out VERY well and was rated highly by all that tried it. I changed my supplier this time and used a slightly different yeast and hop crop. That muddled the numbers up a bit on Brewer's friend so I have corrected bittering hops using the SMPH calculator. Fermentation has just kicked in. Will be interesting to see if there is a big difference to the finished product.

I was two points under the pre boil gravity but ended up three points over the target FG. Not sure that has ever happened to me before. I was expecting it to be two points under, at best. Weird.

OG of 1.075, had to add some sugar for an extra 4 points (was 1.071 at end of boil, I think I over estimated the boil-off volume) to help it get it to the target 8.3%. My big hydrometer only goes up to 1.060 so back to the starter kit hydrometer, very difficult to read on this one but checked with refractometer. Added 2 packs of BRY-97, now to wait…

Did you max out your braumeister for that gravity?

Pretty much, I kept the grain bill down to 6.2kg so only ended up with 17l in the fermenter rather than a full size batch. Good thing with this recipe is it has a load of sugar rather than just grain for the ABV.

I think you could fit a little bit more grain, maybe 6.5kg. Mash efficiency was about 5% lower than normal.

Have you tried to do a big beer in yours before @Pennine?

20 litres of a Hoegaarden clone
3000g Pilsner
2000g Wheat malt
200g flaked maize
200g Rolled oats
150g Rice hulls.
EKG 20g @60, 25g @15
Coriander & bitter orange @15
MJ M21 yeast
OG 1052 BHE 61% (low but better than the 58% I got on the last batch).
@Cheshire Cat my friend, could you kindly clue me in on how you introduced the bitter orange (ingredient, qty, stage)? I’d be most obliged 👍🏻

Yeah I can get 2.8kg in my 10l braumeister and get decent efficiency. If I go up to 3 or 3.2kg I have to do a longer mash and add it in as time goes by.

I have done a couple reiterated mashes though and have been able to get above 1.100 easy enough. It's a long brew day though.
