So the Father in Law has landed and is firing into the Black IPA.

6 degrees north hopocrisy. Really nice Belgium style pale ale.
Was in the bargain bin at a local deli so snapped up all their stock sharpish.

Round some of the pubs in my local town this afternoon. Nothing spectacular; Milestone Ruch Ruby (dull, but ok), Exmoor Gold (reliable as always, best of the bunch), Cameron's Motorhead Road Crew in keg and Ghost Ship on cask.

The last two, after the Exmoor Gold, reminded me of how I'm getting a bit bored of new worldy type hopped pale ales and sort of yearn for the more 1980's Golden ales hopped with more traditional hops. The Milestone lacked a bit of yeast character, in my very limited experience.

Started with my latest brew. A hybrid, hefe pale. Not that bad.

A bottle of a tripel I brewed about 20 months ago when I first started getting into this. I think I called it Entre Bruges et Folkestone being as it was bittered with EKG and Saaz. It has always been a bit murky and I'm afraid time and gravity haven't really resolved that. It's also a bit dark I think from scorching the DME. That said, it now seems less sweet and fizzier so I think yeast must have continued to chew through. Also the hot alcohol flavours have disappeared. Despite the aesthetics it is actually quite a nice tasting beer which is just as well because there are still a couple of crates. Not quite doomed to the drains yet...

Another B-Side from the vaults - a user upper extract brew I did the day England won 6-1 in the world cup. Sadly oxidized.

phew - I thought I was partaking a bit to much...

average units per week according to my alcohol consumption spreadsheet...

49.2 - 2019
46.8 - 2018
37.3 - 2017
46.4 - 2016

I read a WHO report a few years back that said:
under 35 units a week = low risk to health
35 - 53 = medium
53+ high

I should have downloaded it because I can no long find it. It was a really big report but suspect it was taken down due to political pressure.ashock1

anyways, my aim is to get back to under 40. Only way I can figure how to do that is start drinking brewdog, stop drinking belgian ales, dipa's and imperial stouts and stop brewing my usual monsters. But as for not drinking.... no chance. athumb..
Hmm that's proper not good if i said 25-30 units a day 0.0 I have issues or just like my beer :D

At the Black Isle brewery taproom in fort William. Lots of beers to get through, I hope it survives as it’s a bit close to a spoons.

John finch house pale. I was almost ready to bin this one,as it fermented way above the recommended temperature. So it’s been kegged now for 2 weeks sat in the kegerator, and it’s actually a lovely pint! It’s still not quite clear but definitely a nice beer. A nice cheap all grain recipe indeed

A nice basic bitter, legged it about three weeks ago and tapped it today.

Made with Maris Otter and a small amount of crystal malt. Used Fuggles for both bittering and aroma.

Dry January has just turned into little bit of seepage January. I just had one of my wheat beers. I thought myihhh, it's ok. Then about 10 seconds after I got this really nice biscuit taste. I had a check and I put in 5% biscuit malt. Oooh, I'm liking this, I am.

Ok - I can see dry January turning into damp January but I'm avoiding flooded basement January, which has basically been my entire calendar for too long.

Even though it attenuated too far due to me being crap - 1.004, with the yeast in it's still so milky. You'd think it had a kilo of maltodextrin.

Wherry with some spent grain biscuits.

Grain was dried on baking sheets on the AG day and stored in a jar. Today 4 cups of grain & a handful of roasted peanuts in the nutribullet to rough blend, 2 cups flour, 1 cup reeses peanut butter sauce ('orrible as peanut butter- far too sweet) and a half cup of demarera, 2 eggs, pinch of salt, splash of water when mixing to get a dough.

Wherry is clear and the yeast has formed a solid cake so I got most of it out. Good carb. Very happy.
Nice biccies too! Mental note use flash next time.
