It wasn't really on the news at all, but we got hit pretty hard here in woolwich last night.
Luckily I live out of harms way, but to see ones town get destroyed by thugs is very saddening. Worse still when you know the police are overwhelmed and can't do anything about it.
The BBC were covering the big fires in Croydon most of the night, so I was getting all my news from twitter.

Sounds like the thugs completely trashed the place, looting and smashing stuff up, this brave guy got some footage:

Then when the police tried to take control they were outnumbered and got chased out of town:

Not longer after the police were chased out, the rioters set fire to weatherspoons, its now a burnt shell of a building:

This morning the smell of smoke & burning is in the air. Fire engines are everywhere, still spraying stuff.

If you're in London then stay safe!

P.S, anyone know how to construct makeshift weaponry from brewing gear, and general household items.... (joke)

:::EDIT:::

Links fixed

I couldnt open them either, but my thoughts are with you, there is rumour of this spreading to all cities by the weekend. :(

Scum they are.

Sad to hear about all the troubles near you. :(

Who are the main rioters? Is it foreigners or a mix of out of control British kids ??

Maybe the "Rivers of blood" speech has started to happen?? :hmm:

unfortunately it happened here last night in Liverpool, a mob of around 200 - 300 went on the rampage and wrecked local business.

It’s a vicious circle if you ask me. Why wreck your own community? Once the business is wrecked the insurance payments go up, no one will want to open a business in your area, and then there will be no jobs as no one wants to operate a business there.

Fixed the links.

I'm not sure who the rioters are, I *think* they are all from the area but hard to tell.

Woolwich has had loads of investment in the last few years, they have managed to bring a lot of money into the area, lots of new flats, shops, plans for an uber-Tesco, new DLR line, they are about to start on the new cross-rail line. Its really an up & coming area with a lot going for it... But now you've got to wonder whats going to happen. It will cost millions to repair and rebuild, but beyond that who knows how many businesses etc will be put off coming here. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

Haha, don't give them that much credit though! :D

Cameron's been saying that the police will do "everything necessary", whilst Theresa May has been saying that water cannons etc won't be used... Apparently there will also be 3x as many police on the street tonight, which hopefully will tip the balance, but I'm not convinced. I think these guys are moving to quickly for the police to keep up. I suspect the jails are already full from last night & you only need a few fires here and there for the fire brigade to be over-stretched...

Hopefully things will die down & be quieter tonight. I was hoping to brew!

If they cut the mobile phone signals, as I think they did when the bombers struck, it might stop them being one step ahead.

Apparently they've not ruled out using plastic bullets this evening. That might provide a bit of necessaries dissuasion for the casual rioters and looters.

Agreed.
People have no respect nowadays. These problems started long ago when we all started getting soft on punishment. If these kids had been caned in school.... (I'm starting to sounds like an old man, im only 26....) These guys need some respect beating into them.

What Makes you think they want a Job, or a likely to get one after this, they just made sure they have benefits until they retire now.

Job application

Do you have a criminal record?

Answer: Yes arrested and charged with rioting and looting.

When the dust has settled there should be an enquiry why water cannons were not brought in at the start of the troubles, watching coppers stand by and do nowt makes me so angry and ashamed knowing the eyes of the world are watching, Dave NE
