Hello all.

I'm new here found you after searching Google for a homebrew forum.

Today I decided to barrel my beer, it's St Peters 2 can kit Ruby Red. It's been in the fermenter longer than I wanted due to being very busy of late, probably been in there 4 weeks.

When I lifted the lid I could see a film on the top and small off white blobs, I thought at first it was mouldy, but on inspection the blobs were quite flat and felt waxy when rubbed between finger and thumb after being fished out with a spoon.

I have put the beer in a King Keg and it came out of the fermenter very clear, just not sure if I should keep it or throw it, maybe a taste test in a week to see what's what.

I always clean and sterilise everything before I start and the brew is covered with a loose lid in a clean indoor environment. Behind a closed door. It's basically what was the airing cupboard with the tank removed and a radiator installed for a heat source.

Anyway here are a couple of pics I took

Thanks

Stu

The white blobs (not bubbles) look like an infection, the oily film can sometimes be hop oils, though if it turns white and veiny that's also an infection. It has been in primary a long time and if it's been warm that's even less desirable, decaying yeast leading to 'off' tatses. If it tastes good, drink it until it doesn't. Quite often a infected beer will remain 'good' for some time until detectable to taste, then chuck it, if there's any left.

Thank you, so it's ok to drink then providing it tastes ok.

I shall pick up a new kit tomorrow as I'm off work next weekend and the bank hols, so if I start the fermenting tomorrow I should be ready to barrel by then.

Taste it, taste it now. I've brewed that exact kit and it is nice beer. If it is disgusting now then its not right. Mine have tasted good flat straight from fv

Just tasted it, it tastes a bit odd not sure if that's because it's warm or just off, probably the latter. It's still quite clear, will leave it a week and try again after its cooled down during the week in the garage.

I have tried this beer before at a friends and it's a great one. Shame I seem to have killed it

Tried it again today, tastes good :drink: good smooth head and almost totally clear. So looking better at last, glad I asked here and didn't throw it on the strawberry plants.

Put 32 pints of St Peters IPA in a barrel today after a week in the fv, looking forward to a proper tasting session soon.
