So I bottled my 1st brew last weekend kept it stored in the airing cupboard and waited until last night to give it a try

I had high expectations since my bottle's seemed to have a fair amount of pressure in them

So I opened up my bottle to discover my ale to be flat as a pancake and very watery

What went wrong? Am I just being eager and it needs to wait longer?

Yeah you are going to have to wait a bit longer than that. Give it a couple more weeks at least. The longer you leave it the better it tastes!

Despite what the kits say "ready to drink in x days" allow at least a month, this will allow the carbonation to work, allow another month for and will be better still. Once your brew is bottled start another one - brew faster than you can drink.
Also, provide details of how you did the brew (take notes!).
