Are you sure about the capacity? I thought those were usually 19 litre.

As to using them as fermenters - go for it :thumb:

you are right mine are 19 ltrs :) the only drawback is the ledge when clearing wine the sediment tends to settle on it so i have to be carefull with it
 
Same problem applies if using 5 litre PETs, or my own 15 litre no-deposit JustEau bottles:

When the wine's clearing, just give the jar a brisk quarter turn every couple of days to dislodge the sediment.
 
oh moley that wine looks brilliant just poured a grapefruit WOW tastes pretty good :)
 
If I recall correctly, the one on the left had just been started, the middle one was about to be racked and the one on the right had just been filtered.

I'm glad the grapefruit WOW turned out well for you, I tried that combination too.
(Mine was bloody awful and went for blending).
 
yes looks like the one on right is drinkable...lol or at least to me i keep trying to keep some back but my fella promises people it before it is even ready. trouble is they don't return my bottles :)
