Calling all grain brewers in West Oxfordshire.

I'm just preparing for a brew day at the weekend sand thought I might dip my toe into the ugly subject of water treatment.

Does anyone local have any tips for success?

I did start to look into it...

...but the Thames Water report from the website is missing some key data. My Higher Chemistry is a bit rusty but I think I got close to what the calculator up there ^^^^^ button, top left, needed.

Then I gave up because it all looked like quite a lot of faff and I just wanted to get a brew on!

PM me your email address and I'll send you over the water report if you like (or you can download it from the Thames Water site...)

Might even be worth dropping them a line, see if they can dig up the bits of the report that are missing for the calculator?

I did try googling for it once to no avail...

...there are a couple of other WestOx brewers on here, SlateMiner is up Woodstock way, Pastor of Muppets (brilliant screen name) over in Burford and a few others. Can't quite remember who's AG though...

Surely the abstraction point of the water would give varying properties and how it could be blended.

essentially in a specfic catchment your freshwater could come from numerous sources (river, boreholes, resevoir) and then in the next catchment different sources (essentially different towns it will be different properties).

Not sure about West Oxon but here in the East we get our water from Farmoor - and I just use it as is.

Graham
