Has anyone ever put a heating element and a thermostat into a 5 gallon bucket just to use for sparging. If they have would like to know where they got the bits from

well as the elctrim bin is just a thermostat and element you could do worse than the following

kettle element from tesco cheapie £5
thermostat from screwfix £7.99
and strap it to side of the bin but you will have to take your own temps till you work out the difference from stated
but thats the same with elctrim bin anyway
hope this helps

what do you mean by strapping to the bin ??? so you dont need to drill hole in bin other than for the element

think these have to be hard up against the side of the vessel they are controlling - that's how they work - on a hot water tank (where these are intended for use) the insulation is cut away to let the thermostat fit snugly against the tank wall :thumb:

If you want to go more fancy, there's the PID route - but it costs a load more

the strap is ususally a spring type but i suppose you could just use bungy cord that is long enough
the elctrim bin has a metal plate with the thermostat attached and is not really that close to the bin as it has a gap of a few mm so in theory yours should be better at keeping the temp.
