I've been leaving VWP in my FVs for a week at a time (to save on using fresh VWP everytime I need one!) but I'm finding it is becoming impossible to get rid of the smell it leaves behind. I have rinsed and rinsed and the smell seems to go until you leave it a bit, and then the smell is back! :(

Any ideas guys? Should I not be leaving it in so long?

Never had that problem, and I've left it in for a couple of weeks sometimes.

Sure you don't just have chlorine-y water? You're expecting the smell and you are actually smelling the chlorine from your tap water instead?

Anyway, camden tabs should take chorine out - fill up your FV with water and chuck in a couple of campdens for a couple of hours. Might work?

I generally use a tablespoon for a 25l.

And two if I'm being particularly paranoid (like if I've used it to transport the tropical fish... )

I've been using 5 tsps (as per instructions)... but guess you dont need half that amount unless you've had a stinky fish in there or something? ;)

Just used 2 and it smelt clean and so far no nasty pong!

btw i wouldnt reuse wvp after a week for cleaning bottles etc-chlorines disappear quite quickly-if your just leaving it there to keep container sterile is fine...

Did this work for you, just curious. :wha:

Haven't tried it as the water doesn't smell so it can't be chlorine... or so I'm thinking!

Have rinsed out the FVs many many times and using less VWP now which seems to be curing it!
