Not been there myself but The Coopers Tavern would be a good place to start. I know someone who plays session music there. Just looking at their beer list would give you a thirst. Also I think you just need to walk around the town as most old buildings would have been associated with the brewing industry in the past. There is also a National Brewery Centre and Museum. Let us know how you get on :thumb:

All depends on what you are looking for? The coopers is a nice little pub, not the easiest to find  then there is the robuck, not been there for a few years but they use to have about 15 trad ale's on, there is of corse the bridge brewery, the museum is now the coors visiter centre :( from the bass museum not a very popular change in the local area, there are a lot of nice pubs if you go looking round the back streets, centre of town is a bit commercial but just out of town is the wepner whistle (sorry spelling isnt my strong point  ) but they normally have live music on a weekend, as dose the royal oak in the town centre (one of the only two pubs in town worth drinking in ) ummmmm there are lots of other bits but I just cant think of them at the mo  there are a lot of brewery related buildings around so if you are into the architecture then there is loads, then there is quite a few bits that the money from the brewery's has created in the way of park lands and fancy bridges ect, anything else in particular you are looking for just ask, I lived there for nearly 15 years and still go back regularly as my daughter still lives there with her mum, plus got a load of mates that I go out with when I get the chance :D

Oh one other one and I dont know if they still do it, but if you can get on to a brewery tore of the marstons brewery it is well worth it, I did one many years ago (use to know the head of quality control :D ) they still have a working union system there which is a site to see :D if not there is an old one sat in the car park of the coors visitors centre that you can have a look at but its nothing compared to seeing it working, and just a bit of useless info, the spare yeast from the marstons union is what goes over to the marmite factory for the yeast extract that they use

thanx for the replies,
i was in derby on sunday, visited the brewery tap by the river and ye olde dolphin, built in 1530..
both well worth a visit ,
loved the cathedral in the town centre too 215ft high tower right next to the road...
i found the premier inn, in burton which is nearish to the coors museum which looks worth a visit,

artyb, have a look for Three Queens Hotel, its right in the centre and about 5 mins walk if that, to the Coors Visitors Centre.

The three queens is also directly opposite to the bridge brewery :D

Isn't the Coors visitor center now the National Brewery Centre ? (Nothing to do with Coors anymore). I went there years ago when it was still the Bass Museum. Quite small as I remember it.

Been on the Marstons tour as well as a group when a student. Not sure if they do tours for the general public. Tour was 'after hours' but the Union Room was impressive and at the end we went into the bar and got as much Pedigree as we could drink in an hour.

Dont often look whenever I am driving past  so could be, I went a good few years ago now, they use to have all the bass shire horses there and a working cooper but I bet they have both gone by now :(

I would have to agree with adrianmole72 about Derby, and Derbyshire in general, some cracking pubs. If your up for the weekend stay in Derby or the Peak district and make a visit to Burton, rather than heading for Burton directly. Though, I am Bias having grown up in Derbys.

Try to get to Wing Wah Chinese buffet restraunt. I've been to the Brummagen one and the Coventry one and the grub was great in both. The ale is crap........but the grub makes up for it.
Pete
