My stock of videne is getting low and I need to replace it, but looking online it is now saying I need a prescription to buy it????

Where are people getting theirs these days?

Thanks, I tried Tesco last time I needed some and it was cheaper to buy 2 on-line than 1 in there.
However it seems to have doubled in price in the past couple of years

Amazon looks cheap but £3.50 postage

I got mine from Asda. Think it was about £8.50 odd. Along around most local chemists, they had no idea what I was on about... Boots was same price as Asda. Online came to same price when added p&p (those who asked you to buy at least)

If local chemist don't stock it they'll buy it in for you, but they pay a delivery charge, which obviously they pass on :!:

So heading for £10 a bottle now including delivery locally for me :( Tried Boots/Asda chemist etc no one stocks it locally :(

Can't remember where or what it was but somebody (Aleman possibly :?: ) recommended an alternative to Videne which you could buy from local farmers supply :?: or is barking Baz barking up the wrong tree (again)

Evans Vanodine Fam30 . . . . around 36 quid for 5 litres IIRC . . . Dilution rates are more extreme than Videne though . . . I guess I'm lucky in that EV are based in Preston

If cost really is getting that silly for Videne, I might be persuaded to buy10L of Fam30 and repackage it, and sell it on behalf of THBF :hmm: :hmm: I'll investigate

No definitely barking up the right tree . . . although It was Vossy that originally put me onto it :D

Forum bulk buying sounds a good idea.

Bought 500ml Videne from Tesco pharmacy for £6 last year, they will order it and it takes a couple of days, 500ml will keep you going for a good while

Well when I asked for it 2 years ago they wanted £8+ for 500ml in my local T. I then bought 1L online for about £9, now it seems to be £9/500ml min.

Will try Boots again though last time they just said not on our "list".

However I may just switch to cheap thin bleach and lots of rinsing  (at 24p/large bottle cheap enough)

I used local chemist last time I think - under £9 for 500ml and that lasts me over a year. :thumb:

Of course if there was a cheaper alternative I'd be interested

Now there is a thought :hmm: :hmm:

:D :D

I have just looked online and seenit is about 7-8 plus postage of about £6. Last time I bought it there was free delivery offer on so I bought 2.I think it was from Very.co.uk but they only have the surgical scrub now which is no good.

Hi theres an idophor cleaner called vanodine available on ebay in 500ml bottles for about £6.00 its used for cleaning aviaries and rabbit hutches. Its a slightly weaker version of fam30 (made by evansanodine) and is defra approved for disinfecting surfaces except in cases of foot and mouth!!! (so should deal ok with brewing kit)!
