Can anyone tell me what the contact time for videne is mixed at 1.25ml per litre?

I bought this the other day as i'm already tired of sanitizing then having to rinse 40+ bottles and i've only done two batches :D

TBH i'm still a bit worried about using this for the first time.My brew is tasting great out of the sample jar and i don't want to ruin it.It just seems wrong using something like this and not rinsing. :hmm:

Any advice on using this stuff would be great

I *think* it is almost instant, but I always give it a minute or two to make sure :thumb:

I shared your concerns when I first started using Videne, but now its just a matter of routine as it has never once let me down.

I rinsed with water for ages before I finally went 'no rinse' . My only advice now is drain the bottles well and use the rinse time you save to drink moor beer.

Videne is virtually instant as it is a contact disinfectant. I tend to make up a couple of litres and and share it between four bottles, then transfer from these to the next four which gives a contact time of less than a minute. When I empty the last 4 bottles, the Videne goes to sanitise the FV and other equipment before disposal.

Plenty of peeps just mist Videne into the bottle with a squirter and then drain.

I use 1.5ml per litre without rinsing and there's no probs. Videne is supposed to kill on contact however it's best to leave it 5 - 10 mins just to make sure.

I make up a gallon of it in a bucket and dunk 2-3 bottles in at a time take them out give a good shake and tip and drain. Takes no time at all to do a batch of bottles.

When using it on larger vessels I just use a spray bottle and give it a good spray.

As it is a contact disinfectant you don't need to leave it to soak.

Time to crack on and get bottling in the morning then

I read it was effective after 1-minute contact. I had been previously using it assuming it was instant but have since tried to leave it longer. I'll dig out the source that suggested 1-min...

Contact time is 2 minutes . . . but this is down to the testing method used by the FDA, that states a 2 minute contact time . . . In all actuality 30 seconds is more than adequate.
