Hi Guys

I've had a velvet Stout in the FV for a couple of days now with very little action. I'm pretty sure my thermometer was broken when I pitched the yeast the FV was very cool to the touch

(Hindsight - Thermomenter IS knackered)

So my question is, can the yeast be revived ? The FV is at about 18C at the moment, if I wrap it up will it come to life ?
Thanks

18C is a good temperature for yeast so it may come back to life. Unless anything is generating heat then wrapping up the FV will make no difference.

I guess it needs to be a constant heat source ?

If I keep it near the radiator then wrap it up when the radiator is off will that be any better ?

I've ordered a heat belt but that wont get here till next week

Thanks

Use a hot water bottle to lift the temprature a bit.
Thats what i used with my lat brew to keep it going.
It kept dropping to 16c but with the water bottle changed in the morning, when i got home from work and before bed it kept it fermenting.
Sounds to me like you just need to get it upto arond 22c to get it started

Thanks Guys, much appreciated.

Possibly a stupid idea but will using Christmas lights work till the belt arrives ?

I think i've heard or seen (youtube) somewhere someone using xmas tree lights.
The water bottle method does work though and is less dangerouse!

Diolch !

Do I just tape the water bottle to to FV and then blanket it ?

I just rested it against the FV in a cupboard but idealy wrap it in a blanket and that'll hold it in place :thumb:

Well, I got home last night and there were a few tentative bubbles, new thermometer showed it was at 16. I duct taped a hot water botte to it and wrapped it up and it was going mental after an hour.

Thanks all :thumb:
