The house we are in now had a skylight changed, because one exploded in a similar house 3 doors down during the winter 2 years ago. Something to do with the sealant or gas used that allowed the gas out, but nothing in, so the windows all went concave, and eventually were overstressed. I think 2 exploded in total out of 14.

Swapping it out for a new one only took the guy about 15 minutes - and we got a free opening rod as it is too high to get to. Great in the summer - we are the only people who can open and close it!

Glad yours got sorted before it broke imagine trying to hoover up all the tiny shards of glass if it exploded in a bedroom.

It's above the staircase. Woman who'se house it was was the postmistress so told me what happened. Middle of the night - huge bang and went to investigate - then glass all over the stairs. Fortunately only the inside went so rain didn't get in. Only after they came out to look at it did they realise all the houses were the same, and could happen to any others. It's not like we can get up a ladder to read the serial numbers!

Many thanks.

We built our house up in Scotland in 1997 and installed three Velux windows in the bedroom roof.

We have sent the attachment to the new owners.
