I'd defiantely agree with that but I'd also include the standard western diet in your anaysis of 'diet' as relegion. (i.e. loads of processed food. Loads of meat and dairy. Low fruit, veg and fibre).

I like your phrase "chosen food regime" and shall nick it, as the word diet usually implys you're trying to lose weight and on my personal 'chosen food regime' I'm not trying to lose weight as I'm within my healthy weight for my height. I'm just trying to eat healthier

Obviously, you are the exception that proves the rule, @MyQul , as home brewers are true gents and by definition could never be considered cultists (unless they are discussing yeasts). :laugh8:
 
One of the first things I learnt when studying dietetics and nutrition generally, is to many people, their chosen food regime or 'diet' is much like a religion. HFLC, Atkins, Veganism, Sugar is Satan, whatever, invariably you get the same response if you attempt to be the voice of reason, ~ high scientific principles will be deployed to find faults in other cults, sorry I mean Diets, but won't be applied to their chosen one, imaginary bogeymen will be deployed to suggest some kind of huge conspiracy 'big sugar, etc etc', and pseudo scientific waffle will abound.

I once had a 'discussion' with someone who suggested that the laws of physics didn't apply to the human body, only to 'steam engines'. Obviously, the particular law of physics in question had to be disregarded for their cult, sorry again, 'Diet' to make any sense.

Its pretty depressing really.
Have to agree there. Most of my daily work is trying to argue against pseudo-science and Voodoo nonsense. It's enough to drive you to drink!

What do you do during your "daily work"? If your agreeing with jjsh's diet=religion theory your some sort of nutritional inquisitor? Diet Finder General?

I'm a nutritionist. One of those boring ones that says a balanced diet is key.
 
If you have got Netflix watch 'the game changers' it is a documentary about athletes who have a vegan diet.

Disclaimer: I am not saying that everything in the documentary is correct, just that I found it interesting. Also I eat meat, fish, veg and fruit so not trying to influence anybodys diet!

I've watched that. Forkes over knives is also a good film
 
Its a good doc if taken at face value. The actual "science" behind it isn't great though.
 
There's quite a few vids on youtube refuting the 'science'. But overall I liked it an is one of the reasons I switched to being vegan
Yeah, I had a rant about it too on our blog. Without going into too much detail I felt it was a missed opportunity, instead of showing how being a vegan is possible they decided to stretch the truth to push an agenda, which I thought was disappointing. But that's my view, if it worked for you then great :)

They didn't seem to cite much scientific studies, just wheeled out a succession of atheletes stating that because they were vegan they were at the top of their game
 
I thought this was just the latest annoying buzzword but apparently they have been around since 2014.

So these busybodies want to take away our choice and want us all to stop eating animals, we are carnivores and if we cut all meat from our diets we will suffer the only way Vegans live a healthy life is because they take supplements so as far as i am concerned they can all go feck themselves.

I follow some of the intermittent fasting reddits and combining a keto diet with fasting is very popular but I've never heard anyone call themselves a banter. Keto does work for weight loss but personally I think it's very unhealthy and is just storing up problems for the future (heart disease, stroke, cancer, etc)
Mr Banting was a fat chap back in the 19th century or thereabouts whose doctor put him on what we would now call a ‘low carb’ diet. It was the first successful slimming regime, which went the Victorian equivalent of viral, and ‘Banting’ became a synonym for ‘slimming’.

I have to admit I've not joined the cult of Kviek yet but am looking forward to being indoctrinated athumb..
