Bloody Dyson broke down [again] so I'm cutting my losses and getting another make even thou it's only 4 years old and under warranty. Has anyone any got a good upright they can recommend.

Whoa there - Dyson have the best after sales service of any company I've ever had to deal with - if it's still in warranty I reckon they should see you right and fix or replace it :thumb:

Had my fill with it big yin they sent me a hose the first time as it was being sucked back in the housing even thou i told them it was not blocked and the problem seemed to be more from the sealed motor compartment. Any way new hose came problem still there. Now the main cleaning head has lost all suction. Just had my fill with Dyson now. Ever since they moved to the far east for their amnufacturing machines have taken a dip.I'll be just glad to get rid instead of getting a repair and waiting for it to break down for a third time.

What type and colour is the dyson m8, i'm looking for spare parts for mine. It was stuck in front of a fire and melted some of the plastic parts on the outside???

I don't like their sales practices, and new ones are a hideous price unless you can cut through the crap, get through to the manager and tell him you're paying cash, but I really don't think you can beat a Kirby.

Search online, you should be able to find reconditioned ones at sensible prices.

PS: I've corrected your topic title ;)

Agree with Moley, you can't beat a Kirby, but they are out of my price range.

Actually we've given up with upright vacuums, we have 2 dogs and 3 cats and upright vacuums never seem to do a good job, also my missus is not so healthy these days and struggles to push one around.

We have also abandoned bagless vacuum cleaners as they all lose suction, I don't care what My Dyson says, we had 2, they have both now long since departed this earth.

The best vacuum I have owned is the one we have now, it's a Miele Cat and Dog, it's a cylinder vacuum with loads of power, that uses vacuum bags. We have had ours 3 to 4 years now and it is just like new, no problems at all. My wife loves it too as it's so much easier to use than an upright cleaner.

It has a Turbo Brush floor tool, which is basically the same as you get in an upright with the spinning brush so it cleans really deep in the carpet. I wouldn't go back to a bagless or an upright vacuum now.

Well we get through vaccums like it is going out of fashion! We have 2 labs and currently 2 cats nothing we have had so far has lasted more than a couple of years. We tend to go for the ones about £100 mark on special as even if they only do a year they are no dearer than a Dyson. Having said that we have inherited a dyson and it does do a good job but only had it a few weeks so dont know if it is going to last the course. If I was spending that much money I would also seriously look at a Miele, had loads of their stuff and it has all done the job and lasted well, serivce is great and they have a 5 yr guarantee

I bought a miele to pick up pet hairs, Had a dyson beforehand. The miele wins hands down. Mine is the red one with the turbo attachments, Paid approx 225 for it, Expensive but would never go to another make. Only problem is that i dont think they make an upright one, although not 100% sure.

My family got rid of our old Henry (back in the day!) for a "VAX" which are a good make. reccomended

Screamlead. I think it's a bit far to come from Turkey for Dyson spares. But it's turquoise and purple and a dc07.

Moley. I was sampling my coopers pilsner as it was another great day. Thanks anyway :thumb: .

Miele what can one say about this family run business, they have great products. We have a dish washer and it's spot on. Only problem is we want a bag less for the convenience overall and Miele only do bags.
We have 55 quid in Tesco vouchers so will be popping down there tomorrow and see what they have. I'm swaying towards a Vaxs and i think they are British i hope so because i buy British whenever i can

we have a purple and green DC04 (yes OLD lol), was going to throw it out about a year ago as it had stopped 'sucking' up any bits at all.. we checked everywhere on the hoover to see why it not working , then i came across the filters.. decided to take out the removable one at top of the bagless bit, gave it a good wash (it was filthy!!) left it to dry and put back in...

works just like new.. shall be keeping it for abit longer :D

I've got a DC04 too (Purple and lime  ) Still sucks as good as the day we bought it.

I just have to remind the 'staff' to clean the filters on a regular basis . . . In fact I bought a new set for it last year.

Now washing Machines

Her AEG has just died . . . motor won't turn the drum . . . belt is fine . . .do I go and get a new motor . . . or sod it and buy her new machine :hmm: :hmm: . . . Christmas is coming :hmm:

Buy her a new machine just think how many brewing miles you would get with that and what you could buy :hmm: :hmm:

Moley's right, we've had a Kirby for years (cash, as you said Ade).
Plus found another online, they are heavy beasts (their only physical fault) so, it's one for upstairs & one for downstairs :thumb:

Settled for a Vax bagless upright power 4.
It's noisy, Light weight eg if you stretch the hose to far the upright falls over but apart from that the suction is greatgot it for just under 100 notes with our vouchers.
Was limited which make to buy at Tesco's nothing like Miele, Kerby, and Sebo. There was a bissell [ think that's what they are called ] but it was 1800 watts where as the Vax is 2000. 2 year guarantee so overall apart from the Noise and it being lightweight as long as it's got good suction that will do for me.
Thanks for all replies.

We have got a vax. I think as powerful as the the old dyson. However they are badly designed ie fall over when using the hose. Also things break off with regular occurrence, we have an electrical falt and sent it back, they said they would fix all the broken bits but spent so long doing it their policy said they had to send us a new one. The new one has now got bits falling off and breaking but hey it was cheap and it has lasted a few years already.

Aleman.. get a new washing machine, you may fix the motor then something else could go wrong then end up paying for more bits that and all the expense could cost the same price as a new one
