Other brewers have certainly talked to me about it and there is plenty of discussion on using H2SO4 on the brewing forums. Some are already using sulphuric acid of perhaps dubious origin. I am eager to try this route, but personally wanted some guarantee with the specification, especially regarding arsenic and heavy metal/lead content!

After some email discussion with Paul Taylor at Murphy's you may be interested to know that Murphy home brew have just started to sell Sulphuric Acid in small quantities. As regards the quality, direct quote from Paul Taylor: "Please be assured ALL our products are bought to food grade specification in line with the FCC and EU regulations. We even have our own ICP-OES for testing metals etc." I'm going to give it a try with my American IPAs, which often need a high sulphate content as well as a high SO4/Cl ratio.

I have used sulphuric acid , does the job and you can get from the forum sponsors . I how use lactic acid because sulphuric raised my levels too high for my wheat beers and so on and i don't really brew hoppy beers . I'm eager to hear your results as i was very pleased when i first tried a batch .

Which forum sponsor sells it? I've looked at all their websites and none have sulphuric acid that I can see.

Antiforming (chlorine based) and Persacetic acid are both ones i use at work to sterilize the brewing equipment. Nought wrong with them.

I dare say there isn't, but I was really referring to acids used for reducing alkalinity when adjusting brewing water.

Hi , here it is , no wonder it doesn't really say but i have this and its sulphuric acid and set brun water at 15% strength in box http://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/index.ph ... ductId=107
AMS is actually hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid mixed together. Its about 20% strength in total. If you show you are using CRS (same thing as AMS) in Bru'n Water, it makes no difference what acid strength you enter as there is a default setting for CRS use in this program.
