I have just started to make some wine. Although the kit makes no mention of it I did read somewhere that you should not use a fv for beer after you use it for wine. Is this correct ?
I have 3 FV`s and used them for both wine and beers`s, not noticed any difference in taste but its only in the last 6 weeks i have started to do beer, but for years they have just done wine.
i think i read somewhere that the coloring will change if doing many beers, it changes to a yellow colour stain after a while, same as your syphoning tube, airlock e.t.c i could be wrong but someone may correct me on this...
Mine have been used for bothwith no problem. The plastic is slightly discoloured, but that does not effect the taste of the wine or beer. The discolouration is from constant use rather than the brew. I just clean properly and sanitise.
i get confused when i see this, as my first wine/beer making forum that i joined before here was based in the USA and they treat this word totally different to "sterilize " they had me very confused for a while lol
same as when i was quoting 5 gallons, they were confused as its 6 gallon in the USA, i made a stupid error due to there advice, i filled a USA FV to 6 USA Gallon, then couldnt understand why i had to top up with so much water to a UK 5 Gallon FV at 2nd fermentation stage. That was my first major mistake,
5 Gallon ( £45 ) Cabernet sav tastes crap due to different advice and measurements, so i decided to stay here ..
