Hello.

I have lost quite alot of beer the last month due to husks and parts of the mash getting in to the fermenter! I cant get out to get some fine mesh to beef up the mash flange or the hop filter. Could I run the mash runnings thru a water filter? I assume this wouldnt case any problems.

I suppose I had better check what temperature the water filter is rated too first

Could you not use a fine seive type attachment under the tap?
Sorry not sure if your using a pumped system?

If you are using a pumped system you would be better off with a settlement pot instead of an inline filter as the filter would block very quickly.

Edit: Just read your post again, do you mean a cold water filter jug?

Sounds like it'd be quite a hassle, You could tip the wort through a large sieve on its way into the FV - this would aid aeration too.
However I'd be concerned about bits of mash being in the boil leading to tannin extraction.

I'd be tempted to look at you're mash tun and see if you can eliminate the problem at it's root. What setup have you got in your mash tun?
