It's my first attempt at homebrewing and I was wondering if there were any uses for the sediment left over in the FV.

You can re-use it in future batches, there are a few "how to" guides on the internet.

A 'long' time ago I managed to persuade She that it was good for the skin, if rubbed in ad allowed to dry . . . all the B vitamins it contains . . . . Worked for a while . . . .

I divided my wyeast 3068 yeast slurry into two sanitised jars and poured cooled boiled water in to top the jar up to the lid then put them in the fridge, 2 weeks later I emptied one into a 2 litre starter and it went off like a bomb. After 2 days I put the starter into my wort and all is good.
