Firstly, I would like to thank everyone on here for the collective mass of knowledge and experience on the forum. It has helped tons during this build and has saved alot of mistakes & time.

One of my new years resolutions is to brew bigger. Bigger volumes and bigger beers!
I've had my eye on an all in one system but can't quite persuade memsaab that the price tag is worth it. So diy it is!
I've been sneaking bits and pieces (under the radar) into the house for a while and with nobody about its test day.
I've converted an old (free) 30ltr tea urn for hlt and boil kettle, added a repurposed 2.4kw kettle element, all sealed with a silicone baking sheet. And yes, I've had the connections checked out by an electrician friend (few beers heading his way). Mash tun is a 32ltr cool box with fittings from screwfix and a very small wort chiller made from 6m of 10mm pipe i had left over from another project. All in all, I've managed to upgrade on a modest budget of £39.45. And that included ptfe tape and jubilee clips.

Nothing better than making a great beer from scratch, knowing your equipment was also made from scratch! Looks like a good set up :beer1:

Cheers, just hoping I don't get any leaks halfway through. Suppose that is one of the problems, gotta trust your work to be up to scratch.

Got 12ltrs of Russian imperial stout now sitting in fv. No leaks, but pans were on hand just incase. Gravity was slightly lower than calculated (og 1.090 instead of 1.104) but got an extra 2 ltrs of wort, so no surprises. As suggested above, probably do need to run through the whole process with water just to figure out quantities for dead space and losses, but was too excited. Had a bit of a stab in the dark with calculating losses when figuring out the recipe. But hey ho, all in all I think it was a successful day.
