last time i posted about my build i was looking for advice, now i have got a few jobs done so i thought i would post some pics of the progress. I have to say building a microscopic brewery has been so much fun.
so this is my kettle on the left and mash tun on the right. cutting the tops off was far easier than i imagined to be with a good disk but i think the ratio was one cutting disk per keg. making the tap hole was a hell of a lot harder than imagined I dont think a single one of my drill bits was sharp enough but eventully got a small enough hole through them then used a hole cutter press thingything.

this is inside the tun i have the filter set up slightly different to other people in the way that i decided to have the side with the slits facing down i did this because in my little head of theory i thought the grain will be pushing down and you dont want it getting clogged so am hoping this will help that.

today i made a false bottom i used a 2 or 3mm thick plate of copper and drilled loads of wholes all over it. it fits real nice and snug very pleased with it. I also got the grinder out again and did some hacking and made handles and cut some V's so i can get the bottom in.

my next job is a counter-flow chiller i have bought the copper pipe (10m) and an assortment of the appropriate fittings and the outer pipe is in the post. ill post a picture of that when its together.
anyone got any advice on how to improve on this? can you see any flaws in the design?

oh and i got given this sweeet little pump its all stainless self priming on a motor with a plug what more can one ask for.

Thats a Stuart Turner Cellar Pump . . . I paid 75 quid for mine, and it is a cracker . . . Like the RG550 it will need a bypass / balance valve to really control flow rates

Word of Warning

It is NOT self priming, you must make sure it is full of liquid before running it . . . in other words it must be below where you are taking liquid from . . . . Do not run it dry or you will fry the carbon seal . . You know you have done this when it starts leaking down the shaft into the motor . . . I think the last set of seals I bought for mine (From Hallamshire Cellar supplies in Huddersfield) dost aout £3.50 including the Carbon seal . . . its not a difficult job to dismantle and replace . . . just be methodical when taking it apart and assemble in the reverse order.

Hi SC .. very nice!

You'll find that most of us have the slots/holes in the bottom of the filter .. but the hop filter in the copper will have them all over!

You may find that you need a few more holes in your false bottom too .... drill in as many as you can get!

Looks like a good job .. well done!

oh thanks for the heads up on the pump, and thanks for letting me know what it is. any chance you have a picture of how your pump is set up? and what sort of parts are needed to control the motors speed?..

another question. I'm making a counter-flow chiller at the moment i have 10m/10mm copper pipe for the inner and the outer is 25-mm strong agricultural hose is that enough length do you think is my outer pipe to big?

thanks for the feedback
