I am just getting together what I need and and plans for the setup for brewing in the shed and going 3v setup. I am planning on underletting the mash tun so I can put the grain in before water so don't have to pour in steadily whilst stirring.
I no people usually hook a pipe from the hlt outlet to the mash tun outlet and fill that way but im looking at having the mashtun outlet at the opposite side of mash tun to the hlt and want to hard pipe it in.
does the water have to fill the tun through the filter or can I have a tank connector at the bottom and use that as an inlet whilst the filter is connected to 1 on the other side for an outlet?
thanks

not sure of what you mean... I just connect the hlt pipe to the mash tun tap, open both taps and let it fill up.

I want to put the inlet from hlt to the mash tun on the opposite side to the outlet. but not sure if the water has to go through the grain filter or can the mash tun just be directly filled from the bottom of tun via tank connector.

as long as your strike water perculates up thro the grains and your grains end up sitting in the water to mash...no problem

As above...and take a lesson from me, make sure you have extra water in your HLT to preheat the MT by underletting so that it also gets the manifold nice and hot..you will be really shocked how much temp drop you will get when underletting..its taken a good five or so brews for me to understand my equipment/setup and the weather also has an effect.

I was thinking going in with strike water about 10'c above mash temp and take it from there. ive built the 3 tier stand just needs a bit of finishing off and decided to tee off the mash outlet and pipe the hlt there instead of an inlet and outlet on the mash tun. managed to get a 30l cool box for 2 quid more than the 24l I went for aswell.
