I recently bought a two can wheat beer kit from Wilko. Due to the horror stories of fermenters overflowing, I just made up one can and used half the yeast. ( The other half in an airtight bag on the freezer)

I just bottled up the first lot - the sample I had tasted quite nice! I'm going to make up the second can tomorrow, but want to change it somehow. I've thought about adding fruit, DME or brewers sugar, though happy to try anything.

If anyone has modified this or a similar kit, I'd be keen to hear your experiences!

Thanks,

George

Not used a kit, however i have just bottled a wheat extract brew and have another on the go with raspberries added after 7 days. Was going to do a blackberry one but have done those in a stout and a blackberry brandy.
Give it a go:thumb:

How much raspberries should I add and do I keep them whole? Planning brewing this to 11 litres.

Also - I'm guessing that frozen or tinned raspberries would the best way to avoid infection?

Thank you!

I added 350 grams of raspberries to 6 litres of brew, frozen and defrosted and just slung em in. I will rack it off the fruit in a few days time and stand before bottling.
I eered on the lower side just incase i wasn't keen on the result, but cost also played a part. Tesco frozen were £2.00 for 350 gram bag.Possibly Iceland might be cheaper and bigger bags!

but surely with a greater water content ? iceland are notorious for that

Cheers! I have an Aldi close to me, so will pick up some frozen fruit and see how things turn out.

Bananenweizen or Kirschweizen (cheery) are common mix-drinks in Germany.

However this is mixed in after the beer is finished like shanty

Just remember to defrost first.Chuck em in for around 5 days towards end of ferment, rack, prime, bottle. Mine should be nearing racking soon.

Well i tested this today, down to 1.008, pretty well there, had a taste from the trial jar and decided it was fruity enough for me and a nice colour so racked it off and will possibly bottle on wednesday if still 1.008:thumb:

Hey-Your only doing 12 bottles at a time (I think)
so it a great little experiment
I wouldn't make more than 10 litres personally

I thought one can was wheat extract and the other barley extract no?

From what I know wheat beers are almost never much over 50% wheat extract (because of the protein in the wheat or something).

I added the zest of 4 large oranges to mine, made my FV smell like fanta, interesting taste but needed something else to balance it out (a 1/2 wit?).

Oh I had no idea about the two cans being different! I've only made up one can so far and it tastes pretty nice - definitely wheat! Be interesting to see what the other can is like.

Turned out a decent refreshing drink, not overtly full on fruit, just a nice colour and taste. Tried it out on my lad, my wife and my lads partner and she along with the wife and my lad woofed it down:lol:

I don't know if they're one can of one or the other, it's what I've read online somewhere so don't take my word for gospel.
